"Becca's Carving Pumpkins"

....
Our son was a master pumpkin carver. I can't begin to do what he did with pumpkins but I do know the in's and out's of carving. My run down
of directions is easy. Just follow along with my photos and dialogue.
1- Pick your pumpkin and your work station. Mine was outside until the light was gone and then I moved him to the bath tub.
....
2- Cut the top out carefully leaving an angle so it won't fall into the cavity of the pumpkin.
3- Clean the seeds out with a scraper. It's messy but very emolient. I save the seeds but sort them out from the hair and body waste later.
....
4- When the cavity is clean, use a marker to draw the face.
5- I use the little plastic tools purchased as a kit at the store to do the carving. Dremel has a new automated carving tool but I like working slowly by hand.
....
6- Carve carefully especially if you have delicate lines. I use the little pick to mark dots around the edges I think I may have trouble with. When the carving is finished I pick my display spot and outfit him with a candle.
....
7- Light him up and display to enjoy.
8- If you want your pumpkin to last, treat him as you would flowers from the florist. He will die in the fields without water and he will die on your display for the same reason. I bathe my pumpkins regularly in the bathtub. Too much water for too long and they will split. Notice the top floating inside the pumpkin. I am going for a record this year, hoping he will still be good for Thanksgiving. If not, I'll carve another one.
