Copy and Paste

If you do nothing else, learn to copy and paste.  It will save you hours of work and you won't be trying to type into the address bar an internet address (URL) that has a long line of text, with eyes that may not see well.

You can copy and paste to and from any software program made for writing or typing into, that I know of.  Give it a try.  Copy the url on the address bar above to a text file (notepad) and from a text file to an email program (Outlook Express, Yahoo mail, GMail or??) and from an email to a document (wordpad or Microsoft Word or??).  PLAY and LEARN.  Remember, to copy something, it must be and remain highlighted.  The computer does not recognize a copy direction until what you want copied is highlighted.

To copy and paste:  Place your cursor beside the text you want to copy.  When you see the upright or vertical cursor hold the left mouse key down and drag it across a paragraph in an email or any written text file in your computer until you see it highlighted as if you used a felt tip marker, it will look something like this OR Click at the tail end of what you want, scroll up to where you will find the beginning of what you want copied, hold your shift key down and click at the front edge of the text.  This will highlight the complete text you want to copy.  When the text is highlighted by either method, right click on it and you will have a pop up window.  Click on copy or, you can use your keys on the keyboard (control + c for copy) or look to the top of your program and click the edit tab, then copy The area you want to copy must stay in a highlighted mode to be copied.  Once copied the information is in your computer's clipboard.  Now, open another program, or another email or Notepad or WordPad or Microsoft Word or FrontPage, open any software that is used for writing text.  (text = any written words)  Click on the page where you want the text to be and then right click with your mouse and select paste or use your keyboard (control + v for victory you did a paste) or go to edit tab and select paste.  If your cursor is resting in the subject line of an email and you hit paste, it will paste the whole email into that line.  Not to worry, right click and do a select all and delete it out of the subject line or close the email without saving and open another one.  A few practice runs and you will have it down.

You can copy from a received email but you can not paste into it.  You can paste only into a new email.  Documents and text files can be added to by a paste method.  I find it best to save the original and make a copy to do changes in so I don't lose the original.  Make a copy saving the copy as the originals name adding rev for revision then make your changes in the revised version. The original remains as received allowing you to go back to it's unaltered version if necessary.  Remember, you must open a new email or forward or do a reply to what you have received before you can add your words to it.

Cut and Paste:  Same as above but, what you are doing is taking some script from one part of a written area in a writing program to another spot you feel it is better suited.  Highlight the text, right click, click on cut in the pop up window and the text will disappear.  Go to where you want the text to be and click on that spot and then right click and select paste and the text will now be sitting in the more appropriate spot.  Spot not right? edit tab and undo then  click where you want it and paste again.

NOTE ... Some internet pages have scripts in them that disallow your copying any information from them.
